Agriculture plays a vital role in boosting the economy, ensuring food security, employment, raw materials for the industrial sector and foreign exchange earnings from exports.
it is one of the best routes to economic diversification, especially in developing countries like Nigeria.
This was the position of the President Moringa Farmers and Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, Mr. Michael Ashimashiga while briefing newsmen in Abuja, on ‘Diversification of the Nigerian Economy through the Agricultural Sector.
Mr. Ashimashiga advised Youths to embrace agriculture, especially in the face of unavailable white collar jobs.
According to him, following dwindling revenue from oil the Federal government should take advantage of the enormous benefits inherent in Moringa farming to boost the Nation’s economy.
Mr Ashimashiga maintained that poor implementation of researches remained one of the challenges hampering speedy national growth.
He noted that with the huge potential in the various medicinal plants, Nigeria has no business borrowing from other countries as the Moringa products, especially the oil is widely used by foreigners in Phamaceutical and cosmetics industries while its cake could be used in treatment of water plants amongst others.
Mr Ashimashiga, said apart from the health benefits, venturing into Moringa farming , has the capacity to create jobs for Nigerians.
The Moringa Farmers President while noting that the global demand for the products had soared, added that with vast arable land and good climate, Nigerian youths can be empowered as exporters of the product to other countries, thereby boosting the nation’s growth and eradicate unemployment.
