Additional Sewage Treatment Plant is to be established in Kango Area of the Federal Capital Territory.
This is to cater for about ten million people within Giri and its environs.
The Director, Liquid Waste Management in AEPB, Mr Osi Braimah made this known while speaking with newsmen in Abuja.
According to him, the move became necessary due to increase in population, residential buildings and hotels among others in the Territory.
Mr Braimah said the Plant would compliment the sewage and used water services being rendered in the existing Sewage Treatment Plants in Wupa, Gudu, Katampe Extension and Guzape.
He said the Treatment Plants which operate 24 hours were established to guard against outbreak of diseases due to sewage and used water in hotels and residential buildings in the FCT.
The Director stated that water generated through the Plants could be used for irrigation, energy among others.
Mr Braimah who described the Treatment Plants as vital to a clean and hygenic environment explained that AEPB had put in place necessary modalities for their maintenance and regular upgrading.
While expressing concern over vandalism of some facilities in sewage lines in the city centre of FCT by some scanvagers, the Director solicited the support of residents where they are located in protecting equipment at site of the Treatment Plants.
He also stressed the need for residents to always abide by the master plan of the FCT to ensure proper linkage to sewage lines.
Mr Braimah equally advised owners of hotels, residential buildings and other facilities in the FCT to always cooperate with the AEPB to ensure effective service delivery.
The Director of Liquid Waste Management therefore reiterated the commitment of AEPB towards ensuring a befitting and environment friendly capital city through efficient sewage management system.
