The former Presidential Candidate of All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Retired Major General John Gbor has called for more funding of the nation’s education sector. Retired Major General Gbor made the call in Abuja during his conferment with the Award of Grand Commander of Arewa Students’ Forum, ASF.
The former APGA Presidential Candidate who expressed concern over the present state of the nation’s education sector said a lot needed to be done in repositioning the industry in line with international standard.
While describing education as the bedrock of development, Retired Major General Gbor stressed the need for government at all levels to devote reasonable percentage of their annual budget to education to enhance youths and women development. According to him, any country that neglects education risk the chances of raising productive youths that would build the nation for a greater tomorrow.
He also emphasized the need for parents to develop keen interest in the educational development of their children. Retired Major General Gbor equally advised youths not to take their education with levity as it is one of the key ways of making themselves reliant and responsible citizens of the country. He enjoined them to shun cultism, thuggery and other vices detrimental to the growth and progress of the country.
Earlier, the National President of Arewa Students’ Forum, ASF, Comrade Abubakar Abdullahi said the award conferred on Retired Major General Gbor was in recognition of his contributions to the education sector through his NGO, John Gbor Foundation.
Comrade Abdullahi appealed to the awardee not to relent in assisting the younger generation in acquiring formal education to enable them contribute their quota to national development.
