CBN Complies With Court’s Directive On Naira Notes

The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, has directed commercial banks to dispense and receive old naira notes as legal tender across the country.

In a statement in Abuja, the Acting Director, Corporate Communications of CBN, Mr Isa Abduumin explained that the directive came after a meeting with the Bankers’ Committee.

According to him, the directive is in compliance with the present administration’s obedience to court orders.

He stated that the old 200, 500 and 1000 naira banknotes remained legal tender alongside the redesigned banknotes till December 31, this year.

Mr Abduumin therefore enjoined all concerned to comply accordingly.
