The presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has promised to give women and youths priority if he wins the 2023 general election next month.
Alhaji Atiku who spoke at the party’s presidential campaign rally in Abakaliki, Ebonyi state vowed to ensure that women and youths reach their potential and contribute meaningfully to national development .
‘‘We want our youths to be where we are, we are here to bring you up, our youths and our women, we are bringing you up so that you can succeed us. We are not going to be there forever. We want you to succeed us. For you to succeed us, you must be a responsible citizen. You must be hard-working youths, young men and women.”
The PDP flagbearer reaffirmed his commitment to giving more powers to states and local governments under his restructuring agenda as enunciated in his policy document christened ‘my covenant with Nigerians’
“I am committed to power devolution and resource control, restructuring and I know all the southeastern states have been yearning for it. I’ve been propagating for the restructuring of this country because we want them to have more powers and more resources to deal with their own local affairs”.
The Director General of the campaign council, Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State, described Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as the only candidate in next month’s election who can turn Nigeria around for the benefit of all citizens and who can keep his campaign promises.
The National Chairman of the PDP, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu said Ebonyi was a PDP state and would be returned to the fold during the forthcoming polls.
“Let me tell you, if you elect any governor and leaves with our mandate, we shall keep fighting until we get our mandate.
“However, whatever achievement of Governor Dave Umahi, you know very well that he was a PDP governor. It is the achievement of the PDP and the foundation was laid by governors Sam Egwu and Elechi”.
Dr. Ayu said the party was proud of its governors’ achievements and wants voters to cast their votes for the umbrella sign on the election day and return the PDP to the seat of power in the state.
“We need to engage the people of the Southeast. We need to talk to you. We need to know why you are crying and we will resolve those problems and peace will return to the Southeast”.
A Former Governor of Ebonyi state, Senator Sam Egwu asked supporters at the campaign rally to restore the state to the PDP because until the current governor defected to the APC, the state had always voted for PDP.
