DSS Harps On Professionalism By Personnel For Credible Elections

The Department of State Services, DSS has concluded a four day Strategic Workshop for its State Directors of Security and Heads of Institutions as part of efforts in ensuring free, fair and credible electons this year.

This is contained in a statement by the Public Relations Officer of the Service, Peter Afunanya in Abuja.

It notes that
the Director General of the Service, Yusuf Magaji Bichi reiterates the need for professionalism and neutrality of personnel in the discharge of their duties before, during and after the General Election.

The statement explains that the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Professor Mahmoud Yakubu In a keynote address, assures the Service of the Commission’s determination to deliver free, fair and credible elections.

It states that INEC, through its Director of Legal, Oluwatoyin Babalola, educated participants on the Electoral Act 2022 and its implications for Security agencies.

The statement also explains that a capacity building seminar in Public Relations was also organized by the Service for mid-level officers drawn from the State Commands with resource persons from the media, public relations practice and the academia.

The DSS adds that a Joint Service training programme initiated by the Service
designed to promote inter-agency collaboration and efficiency during the elections
is currently on going at the National Institute for Security Studies with Participants drawn from the country’s Armed Forces, Police and other law enforcement and response agencies.
