Harness Intellectual Potential For Economic Growth – NACETEM

The National Centre for Technology Management has called for the implementation of the guidelines in Science and Technology Innovation Document to enhance the diversification of the nation’s economy.

The Director of the organisation, Dr. John Omimakinde made the call at a twenty twenty three Science Technology Innovation forum in Abuja.

Dr. Omimakinde who explained that Nigeria had taken stringent steps by developing a policy document for Science and Technology Innovation stressed that the forum provided a platform to beam searchlight on the sector as a panacea for national development.

According to him “NACETEM, as a foremost knowledge support and policy research institution in the country, is convinced that the current STI policy is a document that can put us in the right direction to go. All we need is to achieve sustainable development and diversification of Nigeria’s economy is contained therein, but it appears it has not fully owned it and deployed it appropriately.”

In a presentation, the Guest Speaker Professor William Siyanbola stressed that the only way for any nation to grow was to harness the intellectual potential of its citizens as research remained key to set priority for the policy makers for economic growth.

Professor Siyanbola urged Nigerian government to create more enabling environment to encourage innovations and explore the available raw materials to enable Nigerians and other foreign nationals to invest in the nation’s economyy.

In her remark, The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Science and Technology, Mrs. Monilola Udo decried duplication of researches on one product getting the same result stressed the need to communicate ideas, collaborate, and have cordial relationship for the ministry coordination.

She explained that this remains the driver to diversify the economy.

The forum displayed various innovations that could drive the nation’s economy to meet international best practices.
