Independence could mean different things to different people, but for Nigeria, independence means freedom from the shackles of Colonial rule.

Hence, October first, every year is set aside to celebrate her independence.

For the founding fathers like Tafawa Balewa Obafemi Awolowo and Nnamdi Azkiwe, among others, sustaining the gains of independence was there dream, little wonder the national anthem says” the labour of our hereoes past shall never be in vain.”

For the expectations of the founding fathers to be achievable, the leaders and the led have their roles to play.

The Senate President, senator Ahmad lawan who stressed the need for leaders to continue to deepen democracy towards sustaining good governance that would meet the yearnings of the citizens, he pledged the 9th Assembly’s readiness to continue to look into issues that would make Nigeria greater.

The SGF, Boss Mustapha highlighted peaceful conduct of Nigerians in the forth coming 2023 general election as well as upholding democratic tenets as part of his expectations from Nigerians .

Wife of the President Hajiya Aisha Buhari commended the efforts of gallant Security men and women even as he expressed concern over the economy.

The Sultan of Sokoto,Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar lll, and the Minister in charge of RCCG Jesus Tabernacle Parish Piwoyi Pastor Ben Obi prayed for God’s intervention in the affairs of Nigeria.

With round pegs in round holes, it is expected that the challenges confronting Nigeria as a nation will all be surmounted, where all citizens will enjoy a nation bound in freedom, peace and unity.
