With the commencement of campaigns for the 2023 general election few days away, the main opposition, the Peoples Democratic party PDP is still embroiled in a serious leadership crisis that may mar its chances of winning the election.
A group of Governors and leaders championed by the Rivers State Governor, Mr. Nyesome Wike who has been the backbone and major financier of the party since 2019 is insisting that the national chairman, Dr Iyorchia Ayu must resign.
After Governor Wike’s broadcast yesterday exposing the alleged underhand dealings between Dr. Ayu and the party’s presidential candidate Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the spokesman of the APC’s presidential candidate Mr. Bayo Onanuga issued a statement, taunting the PDP, saying that Atiku’s promise to unite the nation if elected president was not feasible since he could not unite his own party.
But in a swift reaction, the Media Adviser to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Mr. Paul Ibe in a statement described the APC as an interloper and told the party to focus on solving its own problems.
Mr. Ibe described Alhaji Atiku as a democrat who would continue
to carry on with the responsibility of ensuring that the PDP rescues Nigeria from the stranglehold of the APC in next year’s general election.
