Vandalism of Public Facilities Must Stop- Candido

The Federal Capital Territory Transportation Secretariat, has decried the high level of vandalism of Public facilities by unscrupulous elements.

The new FCT Transportation Secretary, Alhaji Abdullahi Adamu Candido who expressed dismay over the manner some traffic related infrastructures were being vandalized while on tour of projects under the Secretariat, stressed the need for stringent measures to be taking on anyone caught perpetrating such acts.

He said government would not sit back to watch people in the guise of Scavengers or Babanbola destroy capital intensive infrastructures meant for the good of residents.

“Government will not just sit and watch. We are putting in place measures to ensure that vandals and vandalism is checked, so that we can have a tidy city. Vandals or ‘babanbolas’ are supposed to be faced squarely. They need to be told the truth -we can’t have the city with this kind of vandalism. This has to be stopped”. Candido said.

Inspecting the level of work done at the Nyanya -Bus Terminal, Alhaji Candido assured that the Administration is committed to channel available resources for the completion of the construction of Abuja – Nyanya Bus Terminal to ease the perennial traffic congestion in the area.

Alhaji Candido said the completion of the Bus Terminal apart from resolving the issue of manhour lost on gridlock at that axis, would also showcase the good image of the city and improve its aesthetics.

Alhaji Candido pointed out that the FCT Minister, Mallam Muhammad Musa Bello is determined to completing priority projects that will make positive impact on the lives of FCT residents.

His words: “ …good infrastructure is the image of the city so we must work on the conscience of the citizens to begin to protect public facilities put in place by government. I embarked on this tour to familiarize myself with some of the infrastructural demands of this Secretariat; one of which is this Nyanya Bus Terminal, which is a priority project of the Administration…It is only fair that we take a look at it, see the stage of work so far so that we can advise and convince the administration to ensure its completion,” He explained.

According to Alhaji Candido completion of the Bus Terminal is for the general good of the citizenry and the Minister is very concerned about the project and he is ready to ensure that it becomes one of his legacies.

“It will give us seamless flow of traffic and provide free access to and fro the city. Our assurance to the people is that this Terminal will come into effect, courtesy of the Administration of Muhammad Bello, as soon as possible”.

Other projects also inspected by the Secretary include mass transit bus stops across the city centre.
