FCTA Demolishes 100 Illegal Structures In Three Arms Zone

The Buldozers of Development Control Department of the Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCTA, has pulled down over 100 shanties in the Three Arms Zone, close to the National Assembly, as part of efforts to get rid of Criminals in the area.

The FCTA Joint Task Force Team On City Sanitation, defied the early morning rains of Wednesday to carry out the enforcement that brought down business Centers, drinking joints and houses situated on unauthorized plots.

Senior Special Assistant on Monitoring, Inspection and Enforcement to FCT Minister, Comrade Ikharo Attah, explained that the move became necessary to improve the aesthetics and make the three arms zone safer.

Comrade Attah who hinted that FCTA built, and has the mandate to maintain the National Assembly, stressed the need for review and redesign of the official land use in the area.

His words: “We came to remove… shanties, illegal containers around the National Assembly area the three arms zone and this is not good at all. we discovered that people live here, sell here and we had to remove them in order to make the National Assembly safe and to improve the aesthetics .Because you can’t have all these sensitive offices and have all these people here.”Attah said.

Comrade Attah however advised residents to always do their due diligence before erecting any kind of structure to avoid facing the wrath of the law.

Also, Director Development Control, Mukhtar Galadima, assured that the administration was making arrangements to have a good design tphat would fit into the existing environment.

“We coming up with a modest design that would fit into this environment”.

One of the affected food vendors, Mrs Gift Akpan, who lamented huge loss, however confirmed that most of the Occupiers were aware that Government would one day come after them.

“We knew one day something like this would happen but we are just begging them to give us another place…”Akpann said
