Ensure Safety Of Students During Summer Lessons – FCTA

As some FCT schools commenced Summer Lessons, the FCT Education Secretariat has warned schools organizing holiday lessons to ensure the safety of children under their care in accordance with the approved guidelines.

The Director Administration and Finance, FCT Education Secretariat, Mr Abdulrazaq Onivefu Leramoh gave the warning in an interactive with Kapital fm while reacting to questions on why schools were violating the directive earlier sent about two weeks ago.

Mr Leramoh explained that schools in FCT were not shut down, as only those that had completed their third term examinations were asked to immediately proceed on vacation, following the closure of FGC Kwali and the pressure received from parents and guardians over the matter by the Administration.

According to Mr Leramoh, schools organizing summer lessons cannot be accused of violation the directive, because some final year students were still in school writing their NECO .

His words: ” technically, schools in FCT were never closed down. Upon completion of 3rd term examination, students were allowed to proceed on third term vacation, while those still writing exams continued with their examinations. As we speak, students are still writing NECO, so schools in FCT were never closed down “

Mr Leramoh however stressed the need for schools organizing summer lessons to ensure strict adherence to the approved security guidelines.

“For those who are doing summer school, it is their annual programme to keep students engaged. Is okay! We approved of it, we only urged those schools to ensure safety of their students in the schools. Normally, there are security guidelines given to these schools, we only encouraged them to adhere strictly to these guidelines ” Leramoh said.
