Borno : PDP Suspends Vice Chairman, 5 Others

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has suspended the Vice Chairman and five other executives of the party in Borno State over gross misconduct and breach of the party’s constitution

At a media briefing in Maiduguri, the PDP chairman, Zanna Gaddama faulted his purported suspension by the six officials who he said had no constitutional
powers to suspend him.

The chairman said it was necessary to clear the air of the unlawful gathering by some party officials in an attempt to cause confusion, disunity, disaffection and possible breakdown of law and order.

Zanna Gaddama observed that the activities of the suspended officers contravened the provision of section 36 (1)  (a) and (b) of the party constitution which gives power to only the state party secretary as a chief executive officer to call for a meeting and also Section 35 (1) (a) & (d) that gives power to the chairman to summon and preside over a meeting.

“The meeting today which was summoned by the state secretary on the directives of the state chairman have suspended Alhaji Bunu Satomi, state legal adviser Abdu Jidda, Honourable Kaka Shettima, Abba Kalumi, Mohammed Ballah and Umar Shani” Gaddama said.

He urged party supporters to remain calm and be law abiding as the decision was taken in accordance with the constitution of the party.

The briefing has in attendance the State Chairman, State Secretary, members of the State Working and executive Committee, the 27 Local Government chairman, Party flagbearears among others.

Some officials of the PDP had last week passed a vote of no confidence on the state chairman and suspended him for a period of one month for engaging in alledged anti party activities.
