Anambra: PCN Seeks Support For Speedy Completion Of International Drug Co-ordinated Wholesale Centre

Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo has performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the International Drug Co-ordinated Wholesale Centre, Oba in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State

Performing the function, Governor Soludo said that the initiative was part of his administration’s general vision of building a liveable and prosperous homeland.

Governor Soludo said the people’s health is paramount adding that it is the reason his government is fully committed to introducing measures for adequate regulation in the drug administration sector.

Governor Soludo noted that the project when completed, would become the biggest drug distribution centre in Africa.

He gave a twenty-four-month ultimatum to all open drug markets in the state, especially Ogbo Ogwu, Onitsha, stressing that at the expiration of the ultimatum, such structures would be regarded as illegal and demolished.

The governor added that the Oba site will become the only approved location for wholesale drug distribution in the state after the deadline, expressing optimism that in line with the envisioned smart megacity, the centre will be technology-driven.

On his part, the Registrar, Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN), Ibrahim Ahmed, noted that the coordinated wholesale center (CWC) was approved by the Federal Government in 2015 with the goal to relocate the stakeholders in drug businesses that are operating in the open markets (across the country).

The Registrar said the goal was to achieve a well-ordered drug distribution system in the country and bring sanity to the drug distribution channel aimed at improving access to quality, effective and safe medicines.

It may interest Mr Governor to know that the other two states that were among the first set of states granted approval for CWC commenced construction activities immediately after they were granted location approval and as a matter of fact, one of them (Kano) is about to be commissioned.

” I want to, therefore, use this medium to call on all stakeholders to unite and cooperate with Mr. Governor for the speedy and successful completion of this laudable project in Anambra state.”

He, therefore, called on all stakeholders to unite and cooperate with the present administration for the speedy and successful completion of the project in Anambra state.
