FCT State Minister Lauds Rotary Fight Against Polio Eradication

The Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Dr. Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu, has partly attributed the success of Polio eradication in Nigeria to the unrelenting zeal of Rotarians good fight against the disease.

The Minister gave this indication during the opening ceremony of the Rotary International District 9125 Conference in Abuja.

The Minister who was represented by the Executive Director, FCT Rural Water Supply & Sanitation Agency (RUWASSA), Dr. Mohammed Ali Dan-Hassan, said Rotary has been working assiduously to eradicate polio from the surface of the earth in the last 35 years.

The Minister on behalf of FCT Administration commended the positive interventions by Rotary Clubs and RI District 9125 across Nigerian communities and cities, and the Rotarians for their selfless sacrifices aimed at changing lives for the better.

Her words: “Rotary causes serve to compliment Government’s programmes and services in trying to reach out to the vulnerable in the society. Eradication of Polio in Nigeria is Rotary’s gift to the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“Today, I join thousands of Rotarians in District 9125 to serve the people. When all Rotarians serve, together we serve to change lives and make the world a better place”

Speaking further, the Minister Of State for FCT, tasked all Rotarians to continue to serve, to change lives, to imagine what rotary would be in the year 2032 and make the world a better place.

The Minister also used the medium to canvass for partnership with Rotary club on water and sanitation amongst other preventive and developmental issues.

“…on November 9, 2021, the FCT Administration declared a State of Emergency on Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) and launched an action plan, targeted at ending open defecation by the year 2025, in line with the national target. I would like Rotary to partner with the FCT Administration to support this and other causes such as disease prevention & treatment; maternal & child health; education & literacy; economic & community development; peace-building & conflict prevention and supporting our environment.” Aliyu said.

District Governor, Chief Akpola Oyedekun and Founder of Rotary in Nigeria, Sir Emeka Offor unanimously said Rotary club would always be committed to serving humanity by supporting people oriented Programmes.
