Don’t Lose Hope On Constitution Review- Lawan To Nigerians

President of the Senate Ahmad Lawan has appealed to Nigerians with pending issues on constitution review not to lose hope.

He made the appeal in Abuja while receiving in audience members of the National Council of Traditional Rulers of Nigeria led by the Etsu Nupe, his Royal Highness Doctor Yahaya Abubakar.

Senator Lawan said the doors of the National Assembly were still open for further engagement on issues that had not passed with the last exercise.

Responding to the plea by the Royal fathers, the President of the Senate , Ahmad Lawan commended them for their approach and belief in democratic Institutions particularly the parliament.

He assured the Royal fathers that all hopes are not lost adding that their demand would be looked into for possible resolution.

Senator Lawan acknowledged the important role of traditional rulers in tackling current security challenges in the country.

The issue of formal recognition of the roles of traditional rulers was deliberated upon recently during the review of the Nigerian Constitution by the National Assembly but it was not passed by the Senate.

Earlier, Doctor Yahaya Abubakar who is the Chairman, Coordinating Committee for the Council said their mission was to appeal to the Senate to reconsider its position on the need to accord constitutional recognition for the roles of the traditional Institutions in governance.
