NASS Tasks Nurses On Professional Devt, Better Services

The National Assembly has tasked Nurses on professional development to meet international best practices.

The chairman, House committee on Health, Mr. Tanko Sununu stated this in Abuja at a forum to commemorate this year’s nurses week.

While stressing the need for more capacity building programmes, the chairman House Committee on Health, Mr. Tanko Sununu explained that for health workers to deliver effective services to the public, improved welfare and better working conditions were critical to serve as motivation which should be considered by the National Assembly.

Mr. Sununu stressed that nurses also owe the public the need to improve on their services in saving lives.

Earlier, the President, Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Ayuba Wabba, advised the health workers not to relent in their efforts for enhanced quality health services.

He called on policy makers to formulate policies that would discourage brain drain in the health sector for national development.

In their separate remarks the Registrar Nurses and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, Mr. Farouq Umar, along side the president of he National Association of Nurses and Midwives, Mr. Michael Nnachi pledged their commitment to deliver on the mandate of the profession.

The theme for this year’s Nurses week is “Nurses, A Voice To lead, Invest in Nursing and Respect Rights To Secure Global Health.
