The Speaker, Yobe State House of Assembly, Ahmed Mirwa, says the state government is committed to ensuring speedy completion of projects to restore the confidence of residents in governance.
Mirwa made this known at a forum in Abuja.
They forum was organised to promote accountability and transparency in governance and to also ascertain the level of commitment of parliamentarians on community projects.
According to Mirwa, enlightenment is critical in getting people to be involved and understand legislative procedures.
Mirwa who recounted the ordeal of Yobe State due to insurgency in the past eleven years said the state would implore all necessary mechanism at ensuring speedy completion of projects as part of the dividends of democracy.
He said with the support of Connected Development, CODE, a Non Governmental Organization, synergy between citizens and the legislature would-be strengthened for implementation of budget and government policies for good governance.
On his part a Social Analyst, and founder of Connected Development, Mallam Hamzat Lawal promised to continue engaging lawmakers at the sub-national level in Oyo, Kwara, Kaduna and Yobe for a start.
“The aim is to increase citizen awareness on oversight functions, proceedings, and open Government benefits.
“The roundtable will serve as a platform to build capacity of lawmakers to engage citizens and community-based organisations as well as create avenues where communities can begin to track, monitor and document houses of assembly performances.”
