The Incumbent Chairman of Bwari Area Council Mr John Gabaya of the People’s Democratic Party PDP has been declared winner in the Chairmanship election in the area
The Returning Officer for Chairmanship Election in Bwari Professor Amuche Madu declared Mr Gabaya who polled 13045 to defeat his closest rival Mr Haruna Shekwolo of All Progressives Congress APC who scored 7697.
Declaring the result, the Returning Officer for Chairmanship election in Bwari , Professor Amuche Madu certified that Mr John Gabaya scored the highest vote over the other contestants and then returned elected having met the requirements of the Constitution and the electoral law.
Meanwhile the agent of APC candidate Mr Josiah Haruna raised an issue with the result from Shere ward where he claimed that all the candidates were awarded zero vote in a polling unit due to destruction of ballot.
The INEC National Commissioner Festus Okoye clarified what the law says in such situation.
Mr Okoye also pointed out that INEC had drawn lessons from the FCT Area Council election and maintained that before 2023 General election no polling Unit will have more than 500 voters to address some of the challenges observed from the Area council election.
In an interview with Kapital FM after the announcement, the winner Mr Gabaya appreciated the residents of the council for the peaceful conduct of the poll and promised to consolidate on his achievements.
The result was declared in the presence of party agents, observers, media professionals and the the Electoral Officer for Bwari Area council Olayinka Raji
The PDP also won the eight Councillorship seats while the APC won two Councillorship seats in the just announced result of the election
