COSROPIN Initiates National Corporate Award For Senior Citizens

The Federal Government has promised its continuous support to the Coalition Of Societies For The Rights Of Older Persons In Nigeria, COSROPIN, towards enhancing the well being of senior citizens in the country.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Mr Boss Mustapha made the promise during the Partners and Stakeholders Outreach Forum of National Corporate Senior Citizens Initiative Award of COSROPIN in Abuja.

Mr Mustapha who was represented by a Director in the office of the SGF, Mrs Veronica Agugu commended COSROPIN for initiating the national Award emphasizing that the move would go a long way in acknowledging the contributions of individuals and organizations who have made positive impact in the society for over six decades.

He therefore stressed the need for the support of partners and stakeholders towards ensuring the success of the programme.

Earlier; the President of COSROPIN, Senator Eze Ajoku said the National Corporate Senior Citizens Award Initiative is a national strategic innovative with international focus designed to help Nigeria create and develop institutional memory, reference and award protocol for Corporate Senior Citizens from 60 years above with a view of appreciating their sustainability, capacity, service delivery framework, partnership connect platform with Government, communities and their innovative skills that has kept them running.

“The country, Africa and world business ecosystem need and has to know pioneer of Nigeria Corporate World and where they are and what has happened in terms of their contributions to the country social economic development, their challenges and current operating status and their operational success and survival strategies present a research and case study for our business, schools and Nigeria High Educational System” He stated

According to him, the initiative will help create a standard reference and response for them on how they have impacted on the nation’s employment generation, skills transfer, poverty reduction, taxation, corporate social responsibility noting that this will create a need for reward, appreciation and recognition for them.

Senator Ajoku explained that the programme would equally provide a supportive platform for the promotion and implementation of other COSROPIN projects which includes National Elderly Parliament, Nigeria Senior Citizens Games, Nigeria Senior Citizens Commuity Champions, COSROPIN Advocacy Movies on the rights of older persons in Nigeria among others.

The President of COSROPIN therefore solicited the support of the media, Ministries, Departments and Agencies, MDAs, private sector and other stakeholders as well as notable partners towards ensuring the success of the programme.

“We are inviting and engaging all of you as critical partners and stakeholders in advancing, promoting, organizing and hosting the maiden edition and for us all to be a part of history, memorial of this initiative” He added.
