Youths Identify Poverty, Unemployment As Causes Of Insecurity

The Nigeria Ethnic Nationalities Youth Leaders Council has called on Politicians to be mindful of their utterances and place national interest above personal ambition.

President General of the Council, Comrade Terry Obirh who made the call while briefing newsmen in Abuja said Youths have resolved to work together to strengthen the unity among ethnic groups across the country.

Comrade Obirh who expressed concern over the unguarded statements from some of political leaders ahead of the 2023 general election stressed the need for politicians to see themselves as vehicles for national cohesion and not agents of disunity.

He stressed that the Council would embark on aggressive campaign on the need for Youths to fully participate in the nation’s electoral process.

Comrade Obirh however urged INEC to provide a level playing field for all Nigerians to participate and exercise their franchise in the 2023 Election.

On insecurity, the Youth Council President emphasized that security agencies should have the political Will to bring the ongoing kidnappings, killings and criminalities to an end.

While attributing the poor state of infrastructure and high rate of poverty to corruption, Comrade Obirh urged the federal government to check the adverse effects of the menace on youths.

According to him, the increasing number of unemployed Youths posed a threat to national unity.

He gave assurance that the Council would work with all stakeholders on the National Peace Project for continued corporate existence of the country.
