2022 WCD: Public Health Analyst Advocates Cancer Treatment Centre In Nigeria

A Public Health Analyst, Dr. Casmir Ifeanyi has advocated the establishment of cancer treatment centre in the country.

Dr. Casmir made the call in Abuja while speaking with newsmen on this year’s World Cancer Day.

He also called for more research and funding on cancer prevention and management towards reducing the plights of victims of the killer disease.

According to him, there is also the need for capacity building of medical laboratory scientists towards addressing the challenges relating with cancer.

The Public Health Analyst said Nigerians are more exposed to risk factors vulnerable to cancer such as radiation, can foods, drinks among others.

“Today consumption of highly processed food, smoking, alcoholism, indiscriminate use of chemicals on farm produce have been fingered as risk factors of contracting cancer which should be avoided as part of measures to prevent the disease” he stressed.

He therefore advised anyone above the age of 30 to always engage in annual cancer screening towards checkmating the disease.

“In Nigeria, cancer has come to be one of the leadng causes of death and before now, we were grabbing with cancer of the breast, postrate cancer but today we have all kinds of cancer such as liver cancer
Is becoming very common because of the viral infection of the liver, we also have colonel cancer meaning that cancer can actually occur in any part of the body” Dr. Casmir Ifeanyi added
