House Moves To Complete Calabar-Itoketo Road

The House of Representatives has mandated its Committee on Works to liaise with the Federal Ministry of Works to ensure adequate budgetary provision for completion of the Calabar/Ikoneto Road in the 2023 budget estimates.

This is the resolution of a motion sponsored by member representing Calabar Municipal Odupkani Federal Constituency of Cross River, Eta Mbora at plenary.

Leading the debate the lawmaker noted that good road networks are vital to the development of every community as it facilitates movement of
goods and services.

He said that the initial contract awarded for the construction was terminated in 2002 at thirty percent with most part of the road left unattended.

Mbora explained that the completion of the road would boost tourism by providing easy access to the old home and church of the famous Scottish Missionary Mary Slessor with an alternative route to Akwa
Ibom State.

He added that it will equally boost the economic value of the people who are mostly agrarian as this would aid in facilitating the movement of their farm products.

The house urged the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing to review the termination of the contract and re-
award such contract to a reputable firm for completion.
