The Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC is to commence a joint special operation with the Nigeria Police Force to check increasing number of road accidents resulting from overspeeding and one way driving in the Federal Capital Territory.
FCT Sector Commander of FRSC Mr Oga Ochi who stated this while addressing newsmen in Abuja observed that Ninety Two Percent of Road Accidents recorded in Twenty Twenty One were as a result of overspeeding and reckless night driving at some identified routes in the territory.
While highlihting some other measures to address the menace, the FRSC Sector Commander said the Commission would intensify enforcement and the use of brutalizer to check intake of alcoholic drinks among road users.
He stressed that a Special Patrol would be stationed at some flash points to increase visibility.
According to him, the commission will engage stakeholders more, intensify advocacy and sensitisation at motor parks as well as collaborate with religious and traditional leaders on the need to educate their members to always abide by traffic rules in the Six Area Councils.
Mr Oga Ochi therefore appealed to road users to avoid overloading and give maximum cooperation to traffic control agencies towards reducing road accidents and ensuring effective road management in the FCT.
