The Nigeria Meteorological Agency, NiMet, is partnering stakeholders in the sector for effective delivery to boost the nation’s economy.
Director General of NiMet, Professor Mansur Bako Matazu made this known in his keynote address to participants at a one day Seasonal Climate Prediction, SCP, workshop organized by the Agency in Abuja.
Prof Matazu said the objective of the partnership was to engage them in the co-production of the Seasonal Climate Prediction, SCP, for effective understanding and efficient utilization of the products.
Prof. Matazu explained that the practice had been promoted by NiMet and the World Meteorological Organisation( WMO) annually to brainstorm on new innovations in the sector.
Prof. Matazu pledged improvement in the content of the SCP by drawing from the wealth of experience of stakeholders to deliver a product that is of high quality, user oriented, impact based and reliable across the various sectors.
He promised that NiMet would ensure that the SCP, the SCP Updates, the SCP Downscaled versions and several other products and services from the Agency reached the required users, and achieve the desired impact.
Speaking earlier in his welcome address, the Seasional Climate Prediction Coordinator, Mr Haruna Zakari said the aim of the Workshop was to present the 2022 draft forecast to stakeholders from various sectors of the economy for their critical contribution and debate on the socio-economic implications of the SCP for informed decision making in Agriculture, Health, Construction, Defence, Oil & Gas, Disaster Risk Reduction & Management, Education, and the Maritime among others.
Every year NiMet presents the Seasonal Climate Prediction to guide activities in various sectors of the economy.
