Reps Call For Full Implementation Of Climate Change Act

The House of Representatives has charged the Federal Government to take appropriate and coordinated actions to ensure full implementation of the Climate Change Act.

The Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila gave the charge when the House of Representatives Press Corp gave an award of Dean of Bills and most dedicated lawmaker of the year to the sponsor of the climate change Bill, Sam Onuigbo.

Presenting the award to the lawmaker, the Speaker who commended him for sponsoring the bill said the importance of the legislation cannot be over emphasized as the adverse effects of climate change is being felt globally.

In a remark the awardee, Member representing Ikwuano Umuahia North and South Federal Constituency of Abia State, Sam Onuigbo said the Act will help relevant government agencies streamline their plans to mitigate the effects of climate change.

The lawmaker who was the Chairman House Committee on Climate Change in the eighth Assembly and the Vice President Africa for Globe International while commending President Muhammadu Buhari for quickly assenting to the bill, thanked the Speaker and the National Assembly for their support.

Earlier the Chairperson House of Representatives Press Corp Grace lke said the award was to encourage lawmakers who have made notable contributions to National Development.

Also present at the event were Representatives of the US Embassy, the United Nations and civil society organizations.
