The Chairman Independent National Electoral Commission Mahmood Yakubu, says the Commission did not come up with any budget to fund direct or indirect primaries.
The Chairman, stated this after appearing before the House Committee on Appropriation in a closed door session to brief the lawmakers on allegations that the Commission will expend five hundred billion naira for direct primaries.
Mahmoud who said the discussion with the committee was fruitful declined giving further details.
Speaking the Chairman House Committee on
Appropriation, Mukhtar Betara, said the meeting was to enable INEC present its needs for the 2023 elections and the cost of direct or indirect Primaries.
He disclosed that the INEC Chairman had reassured the committee that the Commission had minimal role in party primaries.
Both the Chairman of the Committee and INEC however refused to comment on the reported rejection of the Electoral Act Amendment Bill by President Muhammadu Buhari
