Insecurity: Reps Urge Police, Navy To Beef Up Security At Ilaje LG, Ondo State

The House of Representatives has urged the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Navy to establish more security divisions and mobilize additional security personnel to Igbokoda and its neighbouring communities in Ilaje Local
Government Area of Ondo State.

This is the resolution of a motion sponsored by member representing Ilaje/Ese–Odo Federal Constituency of Ondo State Victor Akinjo at plenary.

Leading the debate the lawmaker expressed concern that Igbokoda, the headquarters of Ilaje Local Government Area, despite its size and population, has been a difficult terrain in recent times due to the cult clashes which often leads to the destruction of properties, loss of lives and injury to members of the affected communities.

He added that the situation has caused untold hardships to the people who now live in constant fear of being attacked and are unable to freely conduct their businesses.

Akinjo noted that the clashes have assumed a frightening dimension with killings happening in broad
daylight even as a popular music Deejay known as DJ Donniyen was killed on his way to a musical concert.

The lawmaker further added that the security challenges confronting the IIaje Ese–Odo Federal Constituency, needed the collaborative efforts of various security agencies, especially as the festive season is approaching to protect lives and properties of people living in the area.

The House also mandated its Committees on Police and Navy to ensure compliance.
