The Nigerian Export Promotion Council ,NEPC has been ranked third on the list of ethically compliant public sector organizations by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Related Offences Commission, ICPC.
The apex Trade Promotion Organisation achieved the feat at the 2021 ICPC Compliance and Benchmarking for Ethics and Integrity among 360 Ministries Departments and Agencies, MDAs of the Federal Government.
This is contained in a statement by the Head, Corporate Communications, Headquarters, NEPC, Mr Ndubueze Okeke.
According to the statement, last year, the Council ranked outside the top 50, which prompted the Management to enhance its operational activities as well as service delivery to relevant stakeholders and the general public.
It says the annual event officiated by President Muhammadu Buhari took place at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, with the theme “Corruption and Cost of Governance: New Imperatives for Fiscal Transparency”.
The President used the occasion to highlight the administration’s plan for Good Governance under the National Development Plan 2021 – 2025.
According to the President, government’s vision for good governance first in the ERGP and now in the National Development Plan includes fighting corruption in the public and private sectors to improve transparency in the use of public resources, reinforcement of security by fighting terrorism and insecurity, reforming the public service by reducing the cost of governance and raising productivity across all the Federal Government agencies, particularly the public procurement system.
In his remarks, the ICPC Chairman Professor Bolaji Owasanoye, stated that ICPC’s Ethics Compliance Scorecard of MDAs report for 2021 shows that only 34.6 percent of the 360 MDAs assessed scored above average in Management Culture and Structure. This poor finding is not unrelated to unstable Boards unable to effectively oversee the institutions.
This laudable recognition by the ICPC of the ethical excellence of NEPC is badges of honour befitting NEPC’s status as a world class Trade Promotion Organization (TPO), as it continue to exceed expectations of all its stakeholders.
