Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo has called on Nigerians to firmly hold unto God and depend on him as the only solution to the challenges in the country.
Professor Osinbajo stated this during the FRCN, NTA and VON 2021 Service of Nine Lessons and Carols held at the National Christian Centre Abuja with the theme: Peace Be Still.
Represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Mr Boss Mustapha, the Vice President maintained that Nigerians must continue to pray and work for the unity of the country.
Vice President Osinbajo tasked the media to maintain high standard, help in depening the nation’s democracy and contribute positively to the Nigeria project.
He also urged the media to desist from fake news, educate Nigerians on government policies and join hands with other stakeholders to build the country.
The Vice President emphasised that the Federal Government would continue to come up with initiatives and programs to address economic and security challenges in the country.
According to him, nation building is the responsibility of all hence Nigerians should stop negative utterances against the country.
He expressed optimism that the country would continue to wax stronger and live in unity.
In a sermon, the Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, Most Reverend Ignatius Kaigama urged Christians not to turn Christmas into a jamboree and opportunity to exploit others, inflate prices of goods and services as well as reckless driving on the highway.
Archbishop Kaigama appealed to agitators, kidnappers, armed robbers and corrupt leaders to have a rethink, repent, embrace peace and use this year’s Christmas to work for the unity of the country.
He also stressed the need for Nigerians irrespective of political, religious and ethnic background to stop pointing accusing fingers at one another, forgive, tolerate one another and work for national peace.
The Catholic Archbishop therefore urged government to ensure the safety of citizens to move the country forward.
The Nine Lessons were read by Christains in Public Offices, and Representative of the Christian Association of Nigeria.
The service also provided opportunity for the SGF, Mr Boss Mustapha to educate Nigerians on the need to abide by the covid-19 guidelines.
