FEMA Partners AEDC To Curb Fire Outbreaks

The Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Agency, FEMA is to collaborate with the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, AEDC, to check causes of fire outbreaks in the FCT.

A statement signed by the Director General of FEMA, Alhaji Abbas Idriss in Abuja explains that most fire incidents in homes and business places were traceable to power surge.

It appeals to traders to desist from converting market spaces into residential apartments.

According to the statement fire incidents in markets in the FCT have led to the loss of lives and destruction of property worth millions of naira.

“You will find out that the market has become a kind of accommodation for marketers, they sleep and cook there, that is why we are having explosions in the markets”. Abbas added.

The statement urges the Abuja Market Management Limited AMML to segment the market to ensure that huge losses are averted during fire outbreaks.

“if traders selling electric appliances are separated from the ones selling non electrical appliances, it will help to reduce loses experienced during fire outbreaks”.
