The Speaker of the house of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, has identified effective information management as a vital tool to national development.
He stated this at a two day workshop on information as a strategic tool for national development, in Abuja.
The Speaker, stressed the need to review the laws guiding information dissemination and management to meet current realities.
Gbajabiamila who observed that modern advancement in information technology had made information gathering cheaper and faster, noted that it also brought challenges in the form of fake news and other vices.

In a welcome address the Chairman House committee on information, National Orientation, ethics and values, Olusegun Odebunmi, explained that through proper information dissemination, Nigeria’s orientation and reorientation policies can be adapted for any planned paradigm shift for development purposes.
The lawmaker explained that proper information management has been neglected in the society, hence the negative environment which gives room for the promotion of hate speech and fake news.
Mr Odebunmi, observed that a properly managed information is not a way of hiding fact from the public, a deviation from the truth or deny them of their right of being informed.
The event is expected to feature paper presentations on effect of fake news and hate speech in the fight against insecurity and other forms of criminality as well as effective information as an indispensable tool to National Orientation, among others.
