GRAF Celebrates 12th Anniversary.

Graceful Ageing Fellowship, GRAF, has admonished well meaning Nigerians to engage in activities that will impact positively in the lives of aged people in the society.

The International Coordinator of GRAF, Senator Eze Ajoku gave the admonition during the 12th Year Anniversary of the Fellowship in Abuja.
Senator Ajoku said the society would be a better place if individual and organizations embarked on life changing programmes that would benefit humanity and most especially the old and less privileged in the country.

He stated that the Fellowship has over the years become a strategic partner to Government in ensuring the welfare and protection of older persons in the country.

The International Coordinator of GRAF explained that the Fellowship over the last 12 years through the setting up of Coalition of Societies for the Rights of Older Persons In Nigeria, COSROPIN, had worked with the Federal Government and other stakeholders to produce the National Policy On Ageing, facilitated with Government for the establishment of National Senior Citizens Centre, and also produced a Bill on the Rights and Privileges of Older Persons in Nigeria.

Senator Ajoku said presently, GRAF is equally working with other stakeholders towards providing health insurance for Nigerian older persons as part of efforts to improve their healthy living.

He therefore advised older persons to always eat rights, engage in both physical and spiritual exercise to ensure a healthy living.

“Asserting good health, physical and mental as well as spiritual health will guarantee ageing grace” He stressed

According to him, GRAF have impacted lives of older persons in many States of the country through its teachings including Ghana, Ivory Coast and Liberia where it has established branches.

While appreciating God for His protection over members of GRAF for the past 12 years, Senator Eze Ajoku added that the Fellowship would continue to compliment the efforts of Government in making life more meaningful to older persons in the country.

In a remark, the Chairman of the occasion, General Chris Garuba commended GRAF for its life changing programmes for the elderly over the last 12 years.

General Garuba therefore stressed the need for other Organizations to emulate GRAF to ensure the betterment of the society.

Speaking on the theme “the secret of ageing gracefully”, a clergy, Reverend Nkem Okemiri enjoined older persons to always live a Godly life.

She also stressed the need for them to be steadfast in faith and prayers to enable them overcome some challenges associating with old age.

While advising older persons to always contribute their quota to progress of the country, Reverend Okemiri called on governments at all levels to put in place programmes that would further improve the well being of older persons in the country.

Highlights of the occasion were cutting of the anniversary cake, thanksgiving, health talk and prayers for the elderly and Nigeria in general.
