PCRC Mobilises Youths For Community Policing.

In a bid to support the fight against kidnappings and other crimes in the Federal Capital Territory, the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC),has commenced mobilization of youths across the six area councils to synergize with the Police to effectively address security challenges facing communities.

To this end, the FCT PCRC organized a picnic at Jabi lake, Abuja, and provided free medical test and aerobics that attracted over 200 youths.

Speaking on the mission of the PCRC, the FCT Youth Coordinator, Mr Victor Olatunji said it was targeted at engaging Youths meaningfully in community relations with the police on security matters towards reducing criminal activities to its barest minimum, particularly in rural areas.

Mr Olatunji who pointed out that security is everybody’s business, encouraged youths to support the Police with useful information towards exposing evil perpetrators in their domains.

“The essence of this picnic is to create more awareness on the need for youths to join PCRC and assist Security agencies in information sharing…The class of people that commit crime fall between the youth age bracket, so we thought of how to minimize crime in the society, and decided to bring ourselves under this programme “

Also, addressing participants,a guest and Security Peace Building Specialist, Mr Bash Olasupo called for the inclusion of women and Youths in promoting community relations with the police, noting that women play significant role in nation building.

He advised Nigerian youths not to allow themselves to be used by self-centered individuals to destroy their future and the country.

He said ” Youths must promote peace if they are truly the leaders of tomorrow”, noting that the problem of Nigeria would go beyond kidnappings and banditry, until Youths take responsibility”

Mr Olasupo who enjoined Youths to avoid the usage of hard drugs also cautioned against Online Sport Betting and Hacking of accounts.

“Don’t destroy your future with drugs…avoid illegal use of Benylin and Codeine.

The program with the theme ‘effectiveness of the youth in securing the country’, attracted many Youths who pledged their allegiance for a united and secured Nigeria through effective collaboration with the Police.
