The Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Agency, FEMA, wants residents to equip their homes, offices, business places and cars with basic fire defense equipment to curtail fire outbreaks.
This is contained in a statement signed by the Head public Relations Unit of the Agency, Nkechi Isa in Abuja.
The statement warns that gas cylinders should be kept outside as the dry season sets in.
It also calls for the segmentation of markets to keep people using inflammable and combustible items away from other traders.
The statement frowns at a situation where some traders live within the market and appeals to the Abuja Market Management Limited, AMML, to install central circuit breakers in markets and ensure that markets are evacuated at the close of business activities .
The statement appeals for more ambulances, funds and manpower to reduce the response time from five to 3 three minutes.
