Federal Capital Territory Minister of State, Dr. Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu, has encouraged African women to be at the heart of rebuilding the economy.
The Minister gave the advise virtually at the ongoing African Women Conference (AWC) holding in Kigali, Rwanda, with the theme: “Women’s Participation in Building An Inclusive and Sustainable Post COVID-19 Economy”.
Describing women as born managers of resources and care givers, the Minister lamented that the continuous under representation of women in the public space, in both elective and political appointments, was part of the factors militating against rapid economic development.
Her words: “we must work to ensure women are at the forefront of leading the economic growth of Africa… be part of policy making and implementation, and women should work towards a gender and social inclusion policy to protect women and female children in our various countries.”
The minister called on Government at all levels to map out workable strategies that would empower women to enable them maximize their potential towards consolidating the gains of democratic dividends.
