2022 Budget: Senator Wants More Funding For FCT

Chairman Senate Committee on FCT, Senator Abubakar Kyari has said that the 64 billion Naira appropriated for the FCT Administration in the 2022 budget is grossly inadequate for successful execution of projects.

Senator Kyari stated this while presenting the territory’s harmonisation report before the committee on appropriations in Abuja.

He explained that though there is an increase in the budget to the tune of 33 billion naira when compared with the 2021 Appropriation which was 31 billion naira, the budget can be said to be grossly inadequate.

Senator Kyari however, said that the increase of the 33 billion Naira in the 2022 budget will only help the administration to pay its debts.

Speaking on alleged lack of functional transportation system in Abuja, senator Kyari said the funding of Light Rail Project was one of the ways of improving the transportation system in the FCT.

On the issue of staff salary, senator Kyari disclosed that the National budget did not include any provision for staff salary.

He explained that FCT has two budget proposals which also includes the statutory budget, expected to be presented soon where recurrent expenditure is captured including the internally generated revenue which would help to solve some of these problems.
